This is the moment when I squint my eyes. Through the narrow slits, the image comes in simplified — as if seen from a distance.

Awkward, clumsy brushstrokes that up close look like messy smears of paint, from afar come together into the illusion of something.

Smudges and scribbles turn into coherent shapes with believable light and shadow.
