Wacław Wantuch (b. 1965, Poland) — painter
Before paint came in tubes, painters had to make their own. Wacław Wantuch still does, following recipes from historical treatises.
He paints the female nude, a subject that has occupied him for decades, first in photography and, since 2016, exclusively in oil. The form of the female body still surprises and delights him, and his paintings are an attempt to share that fascination.
Restoring a medieval townhouse, he found that the oldest paint had outlasted everything painted over it. He decided to make his own paint using methods from that time, and now grinds pigments from minerals for his paintings.
In 2025, his work from the 17th Annual NUDE at Manifest Gallery, Cincinnati, was a finalist for the Grand Jury Award. His work is held in public collections in Poland.
